Jewelweed

Wednesday, August 23
Bartholomew's Cobble, Sheffield, MA
Berkshires

Jewelweed is a beautiful orange flower, but did you know it has robin's egg blue "jewels" for seeds? The seed pods explode when lightly touched, a favorite experience for young and old. Just make sure to catch the seeds and peel off the outer case.

These photos are from Bartholomew's Cobble in the Berkshires, but the species is common and could likely be found on any property across the state near damp to wet soils.
