Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 – October 15 is the celebration of the history and culture of the U.S. Latino and Hispanic communities. We sat down with Marissa Vaquero, one of our talented and dedicated volunteers to discover what Hispanic Heritage Month means to her and how she spends her time volunteering with The Trustees.

What is your favorite Trustees property?

My favorite Trustees Property is Weir River Farm. I’ve volunteered at this location for several years. I love the beauty of the landscape and the animals that call this location home. I have many fond memories of volunteering here. The guests are kind and friendly, and the adorable animals always put a smile on my face.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering with The Trustees?

I love that the Trustees have allowed me to do what I love, working with animals and being outdoors, while also offering a way to give back to the local community. I teach the public about the various farm animals and also answer any questions they may have about said animals, the farm, or the outdoors in general.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

National Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the culture and contributions of Hispanics within the United States. It is about representation and acceptance. I am proud to be a member of such a strong and wonderful community.
