Invasives Weed Intern - Holyoke

Responsibilities:
Help The Trustees get the word out about special places and programs to support conservation, recreation, and education efforts in the Pioneer Valley.

Works to assist in controlling invasive weeds in the Connecticut River Valley Management Unit Properties.  Walks the property to identify the extent of weed infestations. Invasive weeds include garlic mustard, bush honeysuckle, Asiatic bittersweet, Russian olive, Japanese knotweed, buckthorn, and others. 

Preferred Skills &
Abilities:
  • Interest and an understanding of the need to control invasive plants. 
  • Physical vigor to be able to work in sometimes hot and dry, or cold or wet, conditions dragging plant material over uneven ground. 
  • A Mass. pesticide applicators license is not needed but would be a great asset.
  • Bilingual speakers (English/Spanish) are preferred, not required.
  • Transportation to begin work in downtown Holyoke required.
Time Commitment:
Varies depending on the volunteer’s specific job responsibilities. Can be flexible.
