Castle Neck Boat Tours

Castle Neck Boat Tours

Castle Neck River is a tidal estuary river that leads from Essex Bay around the back side of Crane Beach, and into the Great Marsh. This area is home to many native and migratory birds, fish, crustaceans, mammals, and plants. Your boat tour will take you from the boat dock (just off of the beach entrance) into the Castle Neck River, and all the way around Choate Island. Our river pontoon boat, the Osprey, is covered for shade and seats only six, making for a comfortable ride.

Feel the wind in your hair while taking in breathtaking views, seeing Choate Island from the back side, and experiencing the rich marsh ecosystem all while hearing tales of the estate from our dedicated boat captain and longtime steward, Don Paquin.

These tours are tide-dependent because the boat can only make it through the marsh on the east side of the island when the water is high enough. To be guaranteed a spot, please pre-register online or by calling 978.356.4351 x4052. Tickets will also be available at the front desk of the Great House. Please do not arrive at the boat dock without having purchased a ticket because we are unable to sell them at the dock. Boat tour tickets are not available at the beach and do not include beach admission.

Please plan to arrive a few minutes before your tour start time, and be aware that traffic might be backed up along the beach road. For your tour you are welcome to park in the boat dock parking lot, but please move your car after your tour to make room for those arriving for the next tour.

We will provide lifejackets for all participants. Please call ahead to check on availability of child sizes.
