Appleton Farms is one of the most significant cultural and natural landscapes in American agrarian history. Our working landscape offers a diversity of learning opportunities for all ages, from soil science to habitat management to community supported agriculture. The rich stories, rare resources, and sustainable operations make Appleton Farms one of the finest stages in the country to teach about small-scale agriculture.

While we have had to make adjustments to our summer program due to new state and federal requirements in relation to COVID-19, we are pleased to still be able to welcome campers for fun outdoors with a wide variety of farm and nature activities. We will still be learning about farm and wild animals who call Appleton Farms home and cultivating our own gardens. To provide as much outdoor time as possible, we will extend our boundaries more by exploring the multiple habitats of the farm’s edges and journeying into the adjacent Appleton Grass Rides.

We have also made adjustments to our camp structure and procedures in accordance with the new Massachusetts Requirements for Child and Youth Serving Programs. Please note the following, which may impact your decision to register your child for camp this year. For more details, please review The Trustees Health & Safety Information.

  • Creating smaller groups of campers, who will stay with each other throughout each week. Each group will have the same counselor for the entire week.
  • Decreasing the maximum number of campers each week from 85 to 50.
  • Practicing social distancing with people and animals.
  • Eliminating all before/after care options and large group activities to avoid mixing of groups.
  • Screening all campers and staff at the entrance to camp each day, including contactless thermometer readings and inquiries into camper and family health.
  • Sanitizing camp bathrooms regularly and making these bathrooms available only to campers and camp staff.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We will be grouping siblings together where practical to minimize the mixing of households across camp. The original age groupings found on these webpages will be adjusted to ages 5-8 and ages 9-13 to accommodate smaller group sizes.

We believe that as with all summers at Appleton Farm Camp, our campers will be kept active and fully engaged by our team of extraordinary counselors. We will balance the particularly acute need for young people to get outside, socialize with others, and engage with their surroundings with doing all that we can to keep campers, staff, and families safe.
