Bring your kids out for a family full moon adventure in the dunes of the Crane Wildlife refuge, ending with a fun sparkler dance party! This is an earlier, shorter, slower full moon hike experience, perfect for both younger and older participants. We will stick to a short dunes loop with stops for fun dunes facts, enjoy the sunset on the beach, and play in the twilight with sparklers.
April’s Full Pink Moon heralds the appearance of the moss pink, or wild ground phlox—one of the first spring flowers. Among coastal tribes this moon was known as the Full Fish Moon, because shad swim upstream to spawn at this time of year. Other names are the Sprouting Grass Moon and the Egg Moon.
Family pricing includes 2 adults and up to 2 children. If your family is larger, please purchase 2 family tickets.
Please note: We will be hiking up and down dunes, through soft sand (which makes for a more strenuous hike), for approximately 2-2½ miles. Sturdy shoes are necessary and trekking poles are recommended for anyone with balance concerns.
Weather cancellation policy: All trips will take place rain or shine with the following exceptions: If there is a high confidence that thunder and lightning will be present, we may cancel a trip up to one hour in advance. If the forecast is for steady and heavy rain all day, we may decide to cancel by 3pm on the day before the event. If either of these happens, all registrants will be notified by email and/or phone with as much notice as possible and issued full refunds.
The starting location and other relevant details for all hikes, kayak paddles, and river boat trips will be emailed to registrants the day before the event at the address provided upon registration. If you prefer to have this information over the phone, please call us using the contact information provided at the right.
