The new moon brings a new level of darkness to the night. Test your courage on this nighttime hike as you encounter nocturnal sounds from unseen sources breaking up the dark silence around you.
We will start on the beach, letting our eyes adjust to the dark while we prepare to identify sounds we encounter. The walk along the beach may lull you into a false sense of security, but as we duck into the dunes trails you will need to use all of your remaining senses to make up for your lack of sight!
Please note: We will be hiking up and down dunes, through soft sand (which makes for a more strenuous hike), for approximately 2½ miles. You are welcome to bring a flashlight or headlamp, but please make sure it has a red setting to preserve our night vision and be prepared that we will ask for times of total darkness.
The starting location and other relevant details for all hikes, kayak paddles, and river boat trips will be emailed to registrants the day before the event at the address provided upon registration. If you prefer to have this information over the phone, please call us using the contact information provided at the left.
Weather cancellation policy: All trips will take place rain or shine with the following exceptions: If there is a high confidence that thunder and lightning will be present, we may cancel a trip up to one hour in advance. If the forecast is for steady and heavy rain all day, we may decide to cancel by 3pm on the day before the event. If either of these happens, all registrants will be notified by email and/or phone with as much notice as possible.
