Cancelled -- Hawthorne's Buds and Bird Voices: a Reading and Conversation

This event has been cancelled.

In 1843, newlyweds Nathaniel and Sophia Hawthorne were enchanted by their first spring at the Old Manse.  In May, Hawthorne tells us, he threw open his study windows to let escape his dark winter thoughts. Then, inspired by what he saw in the landscape, Hawthorne sat at his desk and wrote “Buds and Bird Voices,”   his reflections on the receding winter and oncoming spring.  We'll sit in that same study and experience Hawthorne's spring during a reading of the work, followed by conversation about literature, landscape, and our own reactions to Hawthorne's work.
