From Scratch: Studio and Culinary Connections

Working with Natural Pigments and Materials

Candice Smith Corby/The Bottega

In this workshop with Guest Artist, Candice Smith Corby, students will recreate historical artist processes, using natural materials to make pigments and inks, tools, using hand-made paper and parchment while learning how some of these ingredients crossover into the kitchen. Students will learn how materials in the studio and kitchen share the similar transformations and reflect a similar "nose to tail" mindset, honoring the origins of our resources. We will discover, make, and taste our experiments!

Students will leave with a quill pen, a small jar of handmade oak gall ink, and small handmade notecards and an small egg tempera painting made on parchment during class.

Materials list:
Swiss army knife or something similar, Pencil, Sketchbook/journal, watercolor and gouache set or tubes, watercolor brushes
