Chainsaw Skills for Women is a full day class with lecture in the morning and hands-on chainsaw use in the afternoon.

 

Topics covered in this workshop include:

 

LECTURE TOPICS

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Anatomy of a chainsaw
  • Reactive forces
  • Basic chainsaw maintenance
    • Cleaning, chain tension, sharpening
  • Additional tools for use with a chainsaw

 

 

FIELD TECHNIQUES – Bucking and limbing

  • Holding a saw
  • Starting a saw
  • Hazard identification & analysis
  • Escape options
  • Log analysis - binds
  • Planning cuts
  • Overall plan
  • Bucking & limbing – field practice

 

 

At the end of the program participants should be able to discuss and list all topics covered in the morning lecture and demonstrate cutting logs on the ground or elevated on saw horses.
