An energy-efficient "green building," the Old House Visitor Center is staffed with docents and features a family museum room furnished to represent the family's life in the mid-1800s, a research library with portraits and other historic artifacts, a classroom with seasonal education displays, and a state-of-the-art kitchen (details for kitchen below). The facility is fully handicapped accessible (ramps, rails, paths, and surfaces). The visitor center is central to the 1,000-acre working farm and offers easy access to the surrounding trails and farmstead area, including other historic buildings and pastures with grazing.
Our State-of-the-Art Kitchen
As part of the Appleton family farm house renovation, The Trustees completed the construction of a commercial grade kitchen and outdoor summer kitchen classroom. The facilities support a suite of farm- and food-based education programs for all ages. We are currently planning a suite of cooking demonstration and instruction courses that will focus on cooking and eating locally and seasonally.
