Experience life on a farm through programs, events, and workshops at Weir River Farm, Hingham's last working farm.
We're not just about providing healthy food for the community here at Weir River Farm – we want to help people learn about where their food comes from. From our "Open Barnyard" and "Story Hour" to guided programs for toddlers to adults, we offer a variety of programs and events, such as:
- Parent and child
preschool programs: Parents and their preschoolers (ages 2–5) can enjoy Weir River Farm with a little gentle guidance from our staff. Through activities such as hikes, stories, and up-close
visits with our animals, children gain comfort and confidence being on a farm. These programs are offered
seasonally in the fall, winter, and spring.
- Ecosplorations
afterschool program: Offered for ages 5–8, this drop-off program gives children
the chance to work hands-on with the animals, hike the trails,
and make new friends. We offer this popular program seasonally in the fall, winter, and spring.
- February and April
Vacation Week programs: Vacation week doesn’t mean a break from
adventures. We enjoy seasonal
activities like working with the chickens or even new baby lambs. These programs run Tuesday through
Thursday during school vacation weeks for half-day sessions.
- Farm Hands Summer Camp: In this program designed for ages 5–12, your child will gain a new level of
confidence and connection to the farm. Daily activities include mucking out stalls, working in the garden,
eating fresh veggies, and learning more about the food that we put into our bodies. This program is offered in half-day,
week-long sessions from late June through mid August.
- Summer Counselor-in-Training Program: Do you have a 12–16 year old who loves the farm? Keep their connection to our property
strong with this service-learning opportunity.
- Adult workshops:
Want to learn more about food and farming? We offer workshops like “Meet your Meat,” “Keeping Backyard Birds,” and our adult
discussion course, “Menu for the Future.”
These programs are offered seasonally and more details can be found on
our events page.
We also run a 4H program here at
the farm. This program is
currently full with a very large waiting list. If you are an adult who would like to lead your own 4H club
here at the farm contact Meg Connolly for more information. Learn more about 4H programs here in Massachusetts >> |
