Whether you want to body surf in the ocean, splash with the kids in a sheltered pond, explore a globally rare sand plain grassland habitat, or go birding in a diverse range of habitats, this spectacular reservation is a favorite escape.
Long Point Wildlife Refuge is one of the largest publicly accessible conservation properties on Martha’s Vineyard. In the early 20th century, seasonal residents established waterfowl hunting clubs. Later, as club membership decreased, three remaining members of the Tisbury Pond Club gave Long Point to The Trustees. Since then, fire suppression, loss of farmland, and forests regrowth have all worked to change the landscape. Today, the refuge hosts globally rare plants and wildlife uniquely adapted to its contiguous pitch pine-scrub oak forest, expanses of sandplain grasslands and shrublands, and sandy beach.
Passes
Passes are required from mid-June to mid-September and will not be sold onsite. Please visit the admissions and hours tab for information.

Swim and relax by the water or follow a two-mile trail that leads through oak forest and savannah. Kayak and standup paddleboard rentals are available daily in June, July, and August; visit the link below to rent a vessel and explore Long Cove Pond on your own self-guided excursion. Please note that there are no lifeguards on duty at Long Point.

Due to very high demand, and to help guests plan their visit, advance passes are required daily from mid-June to mid-September. Please be aware that tickets will not be sold onsite. You must reserve a ticket prior to your arrival.
PassesTickets are released weekly on Wednesday mornings for dates for the following week (Saturday-Friday). Additional tickets will be added day-of if capacity allows.
Limited mobility transport and beach wheelchairs services are available. Please see parking lot staff to assist with these needs.

What You Need to Know:
PARKING AND ARRIVAL: You will be asked to provide proof of purchase upon arrival, either by name of customer or by presenting a ticket (printed or digital).
Please note: while traveling to our property via Waldron’s Bottom Road, exercise extreme caution and do not exceed the posted speed limit of 15 mph. Waldron’s Bottom Road is a single-lane, private residential area, with limited sight distance. Please drive responsibly and watch for pedestrians, children, pets, and bicyclists.
CANCELLATIONS/ REFUNDS FOR PAID TICKETS: Passes purchased at full, or member discounted rates are non-refundable. Long Point is open rain or shine.

Summer Entrance – mid-June to mid-September
Off Edgartown-West Tisbury Road turn onto Waldrons Bottom Road (15 mph) follow road to the end and turn left onto Scrubby Neck Road. In 300 feet turn right onto Hughes Thumb Road and proceed to gatehouse straight ahead.
Winter Entrance – Outside of the above dates
Off Edgartown-West Tisbury Road turn onto Deep Bottom Rd. and follow for 1.5 mi., always bearing left at forks. Then at the Hanging Long Point “T” sign, turn right onto Thumb Point Rd. and follow for 1.3 mi. Through the Frost Bottom to the off-season parking area.

The Wampanoag, who have been on Martha’s Vineyard for millennia, depended on the land at Long Point for agriculture (corn, mostly), fuel (firewood), fishing, and hunting/gathering. In the 1600s, the first white settlers learned from these traditions and techniques; over a 30-year period in the second half of the 17th century, colonists acquired from the natives all of what is now called Long Point.
