Conservation Buyer Program
Conservation Buyer Programs have been used for many years by conservation organizations across the country as a way to protect properties in private ownership.  By informing conservation-minded buyers ("conservation buyers") about available properties with scenic, historic, agricultural, or ecological values, organizations like The Trustees of Reservations can help conservation buyers acquire such properties and, at the same time, ensure their long-term protection.

How does the Conservation Buyer Program work?
Properties can find their way to a conservation buyer in one of two ways:

  1. A landowner sells property that has already been protected with a conservation restriction held and monitored by The Trustees of Reservations or another qualified land trust or public agency. The conservation buyer recognizes that the property will always be restricted to uses compatible with the conservation values of the property.

  2. A landowner sells property to a conservation buyer. The buyer works with The Trustees of Reservations or another land trust to place a perpetual conservation restriction on the property. The conservation restriction is held and monitored by The Trustees of Reservations or another qualified land trust or public agency.

How do I participate?
Below is a list of available properties that we believe are worthy of conservation. These properties are on the market and their owners have agreed to post information about them here. We join these landowners in hoping that these postings will attract conservation-minded buyers.

If you own land that you wish to sell, and want to see its conservation values protected, please contact Ginny Slack at 978/840-4446 x1919 or by e-mail at gslack@ttor.org. Only land that has significant conservation value is eligible for posting through this program.

Potential conservation buyers may also wish to review properties posted on LandBase, a conservation buyer website at www.landBase.org. A consortium of Massachusetts land trust and conservation organizations supports LandBase.
