The Trustees of Reservations Receives $5,000 Grant from REI
Outdoor Equipment Grant to Help Develop the Next Generation of Conservationists
Hingham, Mass. - August 27, 2004 - The Trustees of Reservations, pioneer of the land conservation movement, received a $5,000 equipment grant from outdoor gear retailer REI, presented at the Grand Opening of REI's newest store at 98 Derby Road in Hingham.
A variety of REI-branded outdoor gear was handed over to The Trustees of Reservations educational staff at the presentation. Items awarded in the grant range from first aid kits, tents and sleeping bags to waterproof jackets and portable outdoor shelters. Equipment was specified by The Trustees' education coordinators in five regions across Massachusetts, and will be used to outfit staff and visitors engaged in place-based education programs.
"Over the next year, The Trustees of Reservations will engage thousands of visitors of all ages in enjoyable, useful and stimulating activities that enhance their understanding and appreciation of Massachusetts' natural and cultural heritage," said Melanie Ingalls, director of education and interpretation at The Trustees of Reservations. "This generous grant from REI will help us develop the next generation of conservationists."
Children across the state will benefit from the equipment grant through a variety of educational programs run on The Trustees of Reservations properties, such as the upcoming "Autumn Outings" and "Ecosplorations" programs offered on reservations in Hingham and Cohasset.
