| | Job Summary | Westport Field Office seeks a Community Conservation Coordinator to work with the South Coast Conservation Director to identify conservation opportunities through landowner outreach and coordinate individual land conservation projects from inception to completion. The Conservation Coordinator will also work with the Westport Land Conservation Trust to pursue activities, such as the design and distribution of a comprehensive trail guide, that engages the community in land trust and TTOR properties. |
| | Responsibilities | The primary responsibilities of the Community Conservation Coordinator are coordinating the protection of farmland and other priority properties in Westport in connection with an ongoing land protection campaign with the Westport Land Conservation Trust, with an emphasis on specific focus areas, and managing property stewardship and outreach activities in and around Westport that increase the visibility and public understanding of The Trustees and the Westport Land Conservation Partnership. Other responsibilities include meeting with landowners, organizing outreach events, drafting conservation agreements, and securing financing for land protection projects, including grant writing and providing support for major gifts campaigns. In addition, the Coordinator is responsible for baseline documentation of new conservation easements and for monitoring and managing conservation easements in the immediate area, and for other duties as assigned. |
| | Skills, Qualifications, & Experience | A Bachelors or Masters degree in natural resource management, regional planning or related field, preferably with two years related work experience in land conservation. Computer and cartographic skills, preferably GIS and GPS, are essential. Background in both natural and cultural resources as well as property transactions is desirable as is familiarity with Westport and the South Coast of Massachusetts. Demonstrated communication (writing and public speaking), negotiation, leadership, project management, interpersonal, and teamwork skills and the ability to manage several projects concurrently are essential. | | Additional Information | This position reports to the South Coast Land Conservation Director and coordinates with the Executive Director, Westport Land Conservation Trust; and Southeast Regional Director. Administrative support for this position is limited and candidates must be prepared to handle most of his/her own correspondence, filing, record keeping, and project documentation Ability to travel within Massachusetts and to attend frequent evening and weekend meetings and/or events is essential. Regular staff meetings are held at the Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster, MA. Remuneration based on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefit package offered. |
