Job Summary
The Trustees is seeking a Ranger within the Charles River Valley Management Unit to assist visitors and monitor the resources.  Primary duty stations will alternate between Noanet Woodlands in Dover and Rocky Woods in Medfield.  Rangers ensure that thousands of visitors each year have a safe and positive experience on the property by answering questions, promoting the organization, and taking reports.  Rangers are also responsible for planning and leading occasional guided walks and programs and assisting with special events.  They also perform general cleaning and/or maintenance of the ranger station, trails, and parking lots.  The Ranger reports to the Management Unit Superintendent with an office at 37 Powisset St., Dover, MA.

Responsibilities
• Staffing an entrance station and greeting visitors in a welcoming manner and answering questions about The Trustees of Reservations and the property history and features.  Performing opening and closing procedures
• Representing The Trustees in accordance with the messages developed and provided by the organization’s Education and Outreach Division.
• Explaining the benefits of membership in this non-profit organization and promoting special events.
• Selling and being accountable for memberships and permits.
• Patrolling the trails and property.
• Reporting safety concerns, incidents, and maintenance needs to the Superintendent.
• Cleaning and inspecting ranger station, parking lots, and trails.  Occasional work on trail/maintenance projects may be required.
• Enforcing rules and regulations.
• Assisting with special events. 
• Planning and leading guided walks on occasion.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications & Work Experience

Rangers should be highly motivated with excellent public speaking skills to promote the mission of The Trustees and be capable of working independently or cooperatively with other staff.  Must be comfortable working on a variety of tasks listed above and have a good eye for detail.  Ranger should perform tasks safely and in accordance with The Trustees safety manual.  Rangers should always behave in a professional manner with their colleagues, property visitors and volunteers.  Must be articulate and remain confident and calm when confronted by uncooperative visitors.  Rangers must be comfortable working in all weather conditions including heat and rain.  Properly wearing a Trustees’ provided uniform is required at all times. 

Rangers should have a strong interest in park and visitor management, environmental education, and customer relations.  Experience and/or education in these areas is preferred but not mandatory.  The Ranger will gain great experience in the areas of park and visitor management, natural resources education and conservation, park maintenance, and other related fields.  Candidates interested in these areas are encouraged to apply.


Additional Info.
This is a part-time, year-round position (averaging 16 hours/week), working Saturdays and Sundays, 8 hours per day (9am-5pm or 8am-4pm, depending on time of year) beginning in late August.  Working extended weekends on holidays is also required (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day).  Rangers earn between $8.50 and $9.50 per hour depending on experience.
