It has come to our attention that The Mount, the beloved Lenox estate of Edith Wharton, is at a crossroads. According to Stephanie Copeland, President of Edith Wharton Restoration which owns and maintains this stately home and gardens, The Mount is in danger of foreclosure.
As the owner of several historic homesteads across Massachusetts, we understand the challenges involved in keeping treasured properties alive; they require an active, engaged public and support from an extensive network of people who care. Frances Colburn, Vice Chair of the Board of The Trustees of Reservations, and chair of the Historic Resources Committee, says, "Special places such as The Mount are critical to the cultural and historic fabric that makes Massachusetts unique."
We hope that The Mount is successful in its efforts to address its financial challenges.
