Responsibilities

Maintaining the 50 miles of trails at the properties in the Charles River Valley is a large task.  We need your support!  By becoming a trail maintenance volunteer, you’ll assist with a trail project each month at one or more of the properties listed above.  You’ll also meet others that share the same passion for the outdoors.  The projects may involve: reducing erosion through installation of water bars; rerouting trails off of steep slopes; restoring natural areas; cutting vegetation away from trails; building small bridges or stone steps across wet areas; and clearing brush after storms or winter conditions.  Your involvement in this program can help us protect these special places by reducing impacts and improving trail conditions for those who enjoy them.

A trail maintenance crew leader is also needed to assist with project planning, coordination, and communication.

Required Skills & Abilities

Comfortable hiking trails of various conditions and potentially working in wet and/or steep conditions.  Experience working on trails with standard trail tools is helpful and welcome but not required.  Some training will occur throughout season.

Time Commitment Needed

Crew will work together one Saturday or Sunday per month.  Beginning in March or April, ending in October or November (dependent on winter weather).

Number of Volunteers Needed
5-7  (One crew leader also needed)
