     | Property Description | 124 acres | Established 1985 | The roots of 124-acre Powisset Farm run deep. The farm was first cleared for timber, cropland, and pastureage in the 17th century. Today, The Trustees is continuing that legacy by establishing its second Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program at Powisset Farm. The farm was acquired in 1984 from the estate of Miss Amelia Peabody, who owned and nurtured this working landscape for 60 years. Miss Peabody donated the adjacent 600-acre Noanet Woodlands to The Trustees. Powisset's open fields and cluster of farm buildings comprise a scenic, pastoral landscape that is a rare treasure within the Greater Boston area. Given its history of active agricultural use dating back more than 300 years, the farm is an invaluable cultural resource. The existing buildings and structures are a vivid and cherished reminder of this history. Beyond the cultivated land, Powisset Farm also features an upland oak forest, a pair of brooks, vernal pools, and wooded wetlands. |
