Stockbridge and North Andover, MA – August 15, 2018 – The Trustees today announced the launch of Winterlights, an immersive, all-LED light installation and event series to premiere this holiday season in the gardens of two of its most popular historic homes, Naumkeag in Stockbridge and The Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover. Having presented smaller scale garden illuminations at Stevens-Coolidge Place and other cultural sites in the past, The Trustees has responded to their growing popularity with two large-scale initiatives designed to delight and attract visitors from far and near throughout the holiday season.
Beginning in November and running through the end of December, the gardens at Naumkeag and The Stevens Coolidge Place will be illuminated with thousands of shimmering holiday lights and designed light installations. Both properties will offer accompanying events with special guests, live music and more, enabling visitors to return throughout the season and enjoy a variety of new experiences in the illuminated gardens each weekend. At both properties, Winterlights programs will include performances by local choral groups, visits from Santa, a princess themed night, children’s activities and more. Warming seasonal refreshments will also be available for purchase at both properties.
“We are looking forward to sharing these spectacular Winterlights illuminations at two of our signature garden sites this holiday season,” says Barbara Erickson. “The holidays are all about enjoying the best of the season with family and friends. We hope this series will encourage our members and visitors to experience these iconic garden properties in a new light during this magical time of year.”
Steps to ready the gardens of both properties are already underway. The team at Naumkeag, a National Historic Landmark and gilded age mansion in Stockbridge, where The Trustees recently completed an extensive, $3.3 million garden and landscape restoration, has already completed the construction of new electric infrastructure throughout the garden to prepare for Winterlights. Throughout the series, visitors will be welcomed through the front doors into a festively decorated first floor of the home before setting out on a self-guided walking tour of the illuminated gardens. The tour will wind through the many garden rooms, forests, greenhouses, and allées of the 44-acre estate, including the iconic Blue Steps.
“Winterlights is the first-of-its-kind presentation of this size and scale in all of the Berkshires,” says Naumkeag General Manager, Brian Cruey. “We hope this new series will bring our community together at Naumkeag during the holiday season and build even more traditions for family and friends to share here in the beautiful Berkshires.”
The Stevens Coolidge Place, an early 20th-century‘ country place’ style estate in North Andover, has featured holiday lights illuminations in the house and gardens over the past few years on a smaller scale. Based on the success of that program, The Trustees are expanding the light display into more areas of the property’s gardens and adding additional festivities for all ages.
“We’ve developed quite a following for our holiday lights programs over the past several years and we’re excited to really take it to the next level with Winterlights,” says Kate LaChance Bibeau, Engagement Site Manager for The Stevens-Coolidge Place. “There will be something new and exciting for everyone, whether you’ve enjoyed our ‘Illumination Nights’ in the past or you’ve never been to The Stevens-Coolidge Place.”
Winterlights will be open Thursdays through Sundays from 5PM to 8PM at both Naumkeag and The Stevens Coolidge Place, running from Friday, November 23rd through Sunday, December 30th at Naumkeag and Thursday, November 29th through Sunday, December 30th at The Stevens Coolidge Place. Ticket prices are $12 for Trustees members and $17 for non-members.
