Matt Montgomery

Chief, Marketing & Engagement
2013 – Present

Matt Montgomery came to The Trustees in 2013 and oversees the stakeholder engagement division, a new department including Marketing and Communications, Visitor Experience, Visitor Interpretation, Membership, and Public Programming. Under his leadership, membership has grown from $3.3 million to $4 million revenue and with more than 48,000 households. He led the refresh of the brand and visual design, the launch of the Excite Strategy, and the launch of a central point-of-sale system.

Prior to coming to The Trustees, Matt was the Director of Marketing and Communications at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and oversaw the public relations and marketing initiatives for the opening of their Renzo Piano addition which included more than 600 press placements and a major media sponsorship with the Boston Globe. He also managed the membership department which saw a 130% growth during his tenure. He managed the redesign and launch of the museum’s website and social media presence and the branding refresh campaign for the opening of the new wing. During this time, the museum experienced its highest attendance. He served as Director of Marketing at the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design and oversaw the marketing and public relations for the opening of its new wing designed by Rafael Moneo including the record-breaking Dale Chihuly exhibition. He has also worked at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Atlanta College of Art, and Emory University. Matt received his BA in English from the University of Georgia and his MA in English and American Literature from Georgia State University. He lives in Quincy.
